Medical Training

We have both done various diving and other first aid courses over the years but we may be travelling to areas where proper medical help is either non-existent or a long way away.

To brush up on our skills, Jerry signed up for the Expedition Preparation Course run by Woodsmoke in the Lake District which included a “Far From Help” module run by Dr John Dallimore from Wilderness Medical Training.

In addition to the usual basic first aid techniques, this course provided training on how to deal with the kind of illnesses and injuries which a non-medical practitioner responsible for leading a group in remote areas may have to deal with.

In addition to the training, we also received a copy of the 2008 edition of the “Far From Help” handbook and a private prescription for the various antibiotics and other medication we need for our trip.

We both also did an Emergency and Basic First Aid Course run by St John’s Ambulance in Shrewsbury.
